9mm Magazine Pouch
Why do some police officers not carry a shot gun and AR-15 or similar weapon in their patrol cars?
Do some police departments actually discourage this?
And are you allowed to have a full automatic weapon or a 50 Caliber etc. with you in your patrol car? (I think a high speed police chase could easily be stopped with one clean shot to the engine block)
And what I’d really like to know is why police officers are not allowed to carry or choose not to carry the 31/33 round hi-cap clips on their duty belt.
Personally I think 67 rounds of 9mm will always be better than 35 rounds.
And I don’t see how a slightly longer (if worn vertically) magazine pouch is more inconvenient or would make the police officer look too intimidating to the public.
Some Departments opt to not arm their Officers with a patrol rifle and others do. However, the patrol rifle is gaining wide acceptance as becoming standard in Police equipment. Those “Toucy-Feely” Administrators that think the AR style rilfe is too intimidating can opt for a pump action rifle made by Remington that is chambered in .223cal and accepts AR magazines. I haven’t heard of any Dept. that does not have a shotgun available to their Officers though.
And no, regular Patrol Officers for the most part, DO NOT have a full automatic weapon or for that matter, a .50cal rifle at their disposal! Those fall under the “Special Weapons And Tacticts” Dept. of Police agencies and not the patrol division.
And since you brought it up, allow me to correct a little misconception, A .50CAL ROUND DOES NOT GO THROUGH AN ENGINE BLOCK, EVEN IF IT’S ARMOR PIERCING!
As for the 33/31 round magazines. While they look cool on paper, they look really dorky in a holstered weapon and are very impractical to shoot with and difficult to carry comfortably. Take two 12″rulers and put them in your belt and you’ll see what I mean.
Edit to Jason, Police Departments do not use FMJ ammunition because they tend to go through things. Standard shotgun rounds are 00-Buck and Slugs. OO is being phased out by some departments because of liability concerns regarding the spread of the pellets after the weapon is fired.
